10 Super Diet Tips To Keep You Going

Do you want to make your road toward successful dieting and weight loss less rocky? Tired of the constant detours you seemingly face?

Then try these 10 diet tips to smooth out the bumps in the road:

Eat a “rainbow” of color. Once in the grocery store, make a bee line to the produce section and load up the cart with fruits and vegetables so you can get the most fiber, vitamins, minerals and disease-fighting antioxidants for the lowest amount of calories.

Fruits and veggies also will keep hunger at bay longer and are great replacements for sugar-laden snacks that will derail your diet with the power of an onrushing locomotive.

Don't miss regular meals. You may think that skipping either breakfast or lunch will help you cut calories, but chances are good you’ll overeat at dinner or will gorge on unhealthy snacks because you just can’t stand the hunger pangs any longer. Eating throughout the day—keep it sensible—will stabilize your body’s metabolism so you burn calories.

Always eat breakfast and sneak in healthy snacks between meals to thwart the munchies.

Give your tummy time to tell your brain. Your brain will need at least 15 minutes to get word from your tummy that you’ve had enough to eat. In that time before the “Stop” goes into full force, you may eat more than your body really needs, thus making you feel overstuffed. After you’ve eaten, put your fork down and back away from the table. Give your body a chance to catch up.

Eat fresh. Stay away from preservative-laden foods that often are missing the nutrients and vitamins that flood over from fresh foods. These pre-packaged foods and fast foods are brimming with calories, fat and sodium.

Get moving. You weren’t meant to sit on the couch or behind a desk all day. Strengthen your muscles and heart—and burn calories—by getting daily exercise. You’ll find that you’ll sleep better and the blues will vanish, regardless of whether you’re a gym rat or strolling briskly through the neighborhood.

Treat yourself. Every now and then, go ahead, indulge in your favorite food. Restricting certain foods, especially the ones you’ve loved, from your diet can make you overindulge down the road. If you are hankering for cheesecake, for example, then go ahead and dive in—just from time to time, and in moderation. Better still, just take a few bites, not the whole slice.

Know what the food labels say. Whatever you buy at the grocery, turn the package over and read the Nutrition Facts. See what ingredients the product contains, how many grams of saturated and trans fats, how much sodium, how many calories, and what is a single serving.

Become a fan of whole grains. Unrefined whole grains, as opposed to, say, white bread, maintain their nutrients and fiber. Whole grians, such as breads and pastas, also help your body maintain its blood sugar levels, so you experience less spiking then crashing—which only means hungry—throughout the day.

Learn the "good" fats. Not all fat is bad. Look for foods that are built around monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fat, not saturated fat or trans fat. The latter two are more apt to increase your waistline and bump up the scales. For instance, try olive oil, rather than butter or margarine, in your cooking.

Don’t be bamboozled by “liquid calories.” That 12-ounce can of regular cola can contain 10 teaspoons of sugar—and your waistline won’t think that’s sweet. These kinds of “empty calories” won’t fill you up. For instance, reputed “health drinks” contain several teaspoons of sugar, which is the ingredient that gives you the “boost” you seek.

Discouragement - The Devil's Most 'used' Instrument

Sometimes in life, we tend to forget what we have and get discouraged by some puny incident. Yesterday I had one of those days. I let my guard down and let my emotions get the better of me. What now seems trivial was not the case before. A biting remark directed at me with much disdain hit its target! For the rest of the day I wallowed in self pity and cried non stop until my eyes were all swollen I could barely open them, let alone see with them.

In an instant, this one happy woman who usually walks with a happy lilt was transformed into a stooped, lonely, self deprecating hag; the direct antithesis of whom I want to be! Change can indeed happen in an instant BUT ONLY if we let it.

The rays of the morning sun greeted me from the windows of my bedroom this morning and snapped me back to reality. What am I doing? This is not the first time someone spoke ill of me; in fact, I have been in this situation more than once in my life! I guess I could say I am no stranger to the pit falls of quarrels and petty jealousies in life. A favorite story came to mind, one that my grandmother loved to tell me years ago. I can still hear her gentle voice as she narrated this tale which never ceases to penetrate the very essence of my being.

"It was advertised that the devil was going to put his tools up for sale. On the date of the sale, the tools were placed for public inspection; each tool being marked with its sale price. They were a treacherous lot of implements.

Hatred, Envy, Jealousy, Deceit, Lying, Pride, and so on. Laid apart from the rest was a harmless looking tool that appeared to have been heavily used, and was priced very high.

"What is the name of this tool?" asked one of the purchasers, pointing to it.

"That is Discouragement," replied the devil.

"Why have you priced it so high?"

"Because it is more useful to me than all the others. I can pry open and get inside people's hearts with that when I cannot get near them with my other tools. Once I get inside, I can make them do what I choose. It is badly worn because I use it on almost everyone, since very few people know that it belongs to me."

Brrr. Incredibly scary isn't it? So to any one who needs one, a piece of advice from one happy woman who almost got derailed by discouragement, the devil's most used instrument. Don't let trivial matters get you down. Let's face it, discouragement happens, bumps in the road happen, circumstances change and life can throw you a curve ball from time to time. But so what? You control the steering wheel as you drive down life's highway and no force is too big to keep you from cruising the road to happiness. Just keep your eyes on the road and rock on!

Ice Cream is Good Food For the Soul

Today we had to go out of town for a business meeting. I fell asleep in the car and did not notice that our driver was going ninety when suddenly one of the tires blew up. Imagine what happened, I thought I was a goner! It was a good thing a tow truck was right behind us who was gracious enough to stop and help us out. The tow truck driver put those red cones on the road as our driver changed the tire presumably to keep passing motorists from doing further damage. Deep inside though, I knew those cones were to keep my friend from getting sideswiped by a passing car as he had a difficult time getting that one nosy woman to stay on the side of the road.

The incident scared the beejeebers out of me. This one happy woman became one scared to death woman. Who was that who said life is a highway? I almost lost my life in one!

Anyway when I got home I was a total wreck. I looked nervous and disheveled and was one grumpy woman. I decided to curl on the sofa and do some reading to calm my nerves. I came across the story below that brought the smile back on my face. One Happy Woman is back in business! Read on!

Last week, I took my children to a restaurant. My six-year-old son asked if he could say grace.

As we bowed our heads he said, "God is good, God is great. Thank you for the food, and I would even thank you more if Mom gets us ice cream for dessert. And Liberty and justice for all! Amen!"

Along with the laughter from the other customers nearby, I heard a woman remark, "That's what's wrong with this country. Kids today don't even know how to pray. Asking God for ice cream! Why, I never!"

Hearing this, my son burst into tears and asked me, "Did I do it wrong? Is God mad at me?"

As I held him and assured him that he had done a terrific job, and God was certainly not mad at him, an elderly gentleman approached the table. He winked at my son and said, "I happen to know that God thought that was a great prayer."

"Really?" my son asked.

"Cross my heart," the man replied. Then, in a theatrical whisper, he added indicating the woman whose remark had started this whole thing), "Too bad she never asks God for ice cream. A little ice cream is good for the soul sometimes."

Naturally, I bought my kids ice cream at the end of the meal. My son stared at his for a moment, and then did something I will remember the rest of my life.

He picked up his sundae and, without a word, walked over and placed it in front of the woman. With a big smile he told her, "Here, this is for you. Ice cream is good for the soul sometimes; and my soul is good already."

Don't you just love this story? Share this with your friends and keep it moving. Sometimes in life we all need some ice cream. Here is one from me to you, hope you have a nice weekend!

Secrets Every Woman Keeps from Her Man

The woman you sleep with gazes into your eyes and tells you she loves you. And you believe her. You can tell by the way she looks at you, the way she holds you, the way she seems to always know what you want before you do. There are a couple of things in life you just know, and love and this naked woman are two of them.

But there are a lot of things you don’t know.

A woman may give you her body and her heart, but there are parts that she’ll never give up. Pieces woven into the very fiber of her being. Mysteries only hinted at in a passing sly smile, an inscrutable laugh. These are the secrets of lovers past, hidden fantasies, and unshared longings. A woman’s deepest secrets that don’t—and never will—include you.

You’re about to sample this hidden knowledge. But like any man who seeks, you’d better be prepared for what you’re about to find.

1. My best friend knows everything. She knows all of your vitals—from the size of your bank account to the size of your other, um, holdings—and she knows how both compare with those of every other man I’ve ever dated. I have done a hand-comparison measurement so I can divulge size and girth with a high level of accuracy. When my friend smirks at you knowingly, you are not imagining it. She knows. So just know that she knows, and deal with it. (It’s not going to change.)

Ask her about me, or chat with her about our relationship, at your own risk. She will tell me. Even—in fact, especially—if she promises not to. This is not always a bad thing (e.g., if you happen to be telling her how much you love me). But, in general, remember that she is my confidante first, and yours never.

2. Just looking at your hands can turn me on.

3. When you go away, even for a day, I sleep in your favorite old T-shirt because it smells like you.

4. I’ll never tell you exactly how many men I’ve slept with. No matter how sincere I appeared when I answered your question, chances are I wasn’t. As an unscientific guideline, when a woman says she’s slept with four men, the real number is actually closer to seven. Her fib is partly intentional (she doesn’t want to appear a floozy), but mostly it’s sexual amnesia. When a woman wants to pretend an encounter never occurred, she simply scraps the man from her official score sheet. Common excuses that lead to such an omission: The actual sex lasted only a few thrusts; or she was drunk or on the rebound.

5. I fantasized about being with you at least a dozen times before we actually first got naked.

6. I still think about my ex-boyfriends and compare them to you. Mostly you win. Sometimes not.
